Your Opinion: Response to Ruprecht on homosexuality

Dear Editor:

I would like to comment on Mr. Ruprecht's emotionally charged letter defending and by such, promoting gay lifestyles and marriage. He quotes Jesus in his letter published in the News Tribune Aug. 2 so does that mean he's a Christian?

He apparently thinks so, however I have always been taught a true Christian should live by all the Bible's teachings not select out those by which they wish to abide or to justify their actions.

The Bible is very clear regarding homosexual acts. (Leviticus 18:22, Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination). By logical deduction, since God's law is a given, shouldn't one think that homosexuality itself is not a lifestyle that should be defended by a Christian?

Ruprecht seems very upset by Ms. Monk's correlation between homosexuals and pedophiles. I too feel it is unfair to assume that to be a truism.

I do think however, that if one would think logically, wouldn't the odds be in favor of that correlation being true as opposed to having a heterosexual as a Boy Scout leader?

I would think that intelligent people could see that just as they could see that same correlation if a heterosexual male being the leader of a Girl Scout troop would possibly increase the odds of pedophilia. How does one know the hidden desires of anyone when they are given the responsibility to instruct, and even camp with a group of boys (or girls)?

If there is a sexual urge then who are we to say the urge will be suppressed if and when an opportunity presents itself to shower with a child. I agree with Monks. It's not worth the risk.

Putting the pedophile argument aside, I think the real objection to homosexual leaders of either sex, should be the possible and probable distraction of young impressionable minds from the natural and God created sexual attraction to the opposite sex rather than toward the unnatural, culturally destructive homosexual lifestyle.

What kind of a culture chooses to allow their offspring to grow to maturity without the firm and unquestionable instruction as to the natural and proper relationship with the opposite sex? This is what's totally wrong with this support for the homosexual lifestyle by all Christians!

Ruprecht's request for an apology from Monks is absurd. Ruprecht should apologize to all children for his continuing support of homosexuality.
