Annexation passes in city, fails in annexed area

Jefferson City residents approved an annexation proposal Tuesday to include a new area to the city's 4th Ward, but residents of the Meadows by the Club area rejected the proposal by six votes.

In the proposed annexed area, 16 voted against the annexation, while 10 voted in favor. Within the city, 69 percent voted in favor, with 30 percent against.

Because the measure didn't pass with a majority in both areas, a second election will be held in November. The two votes combined will need a two-thirds majority to pass.
