One arrested in connection with stealing at Maries Co. charcoal plant

Monday evening, members of the Maries County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant and recovered stolen property and items used in the commission of stealing cases.

Early Saturday morning, sheriff's deputies responded to the Kingsford Charcoal Plant in Belle for a report of a theft and property damage in progress.

The suspect was in the process of stealing when he was approached by Kingsford employees.

He fled the scene in possession of the stolen property which was recovered on a county road the later that morning.

The male suspect recklessly fled in a truck at a high rate of speed causing property damage on the plant grounds and nearly struck an employee. This incident was captured on video by the Kingsford security system which allowed members of the Sheriff's Office to identify the suspect and his vehicle.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. Monday, Richard Carbaugh, 45, Bland, was arrested for stealing and other crimes.

Carbaugh was out on parole and has 13 prior felony convictions.
