Hyatt finishes sixth in his 400 heat

Dane Hyatt of Jamaica failed to advance out of the semifinals in the 400-meter dash Sunday in the Olympics.

Hyatt, a former Lincoln Blue Tiger, was sixth in his heat with a time of 45.59. A total of eight runners qualified for today's final, led by Lalonde Gordon of Trinidad & Tobago's time of 44.58. The fastest eight runners in the three semifinal heats advanced to the final.

Hyatt still has a chance to medal later this week. He is slated to compete on Jamaica's 4x400-meter relay team. That competition begins Thursday.
