Accident ties up bridge traffic

A three-vehicle accident on the Missouri River Bridge caused traffic backups Friday morning.

Polcie said Katie A. Wieberg, 21, Holts Summit, was southbound on U.S. 54 West at 7:51 a.m. Friday and, while adjusting her radio, failed to notice traffic was stopped due to congestion.

She ran into the rear of a vehicle driven by Karana D. Southard, 23, of Rolla, who was then shoved forward and into the rear of another vehicle, driven by Rodney J. Vessell, of Holts Summit.

The accident caused traffic on the bridge to be reduced to one lane for about an hour while the accident was being cleared.

Southard was the only person injured and told police she would seek medical attention on her own. All three were wearing seatbelts.
