Crash shuts down U.S. 50 lanes for an hour

A Holts Summit teenager was hurt when her car crashed into an embankment on Wednesday night.

Jefferson City police report Brittany Wolfe, 16, was seriously injured in the 10:43 p.m. crash in the 2200 block of U.S. 50 West. She was taken to a local hospital following the wreck; then a helicopter ambulance transferred her to University Hospital in Columbia.

Police report she was driving eastbound just west of Dix Road when her car ran off the left side of the divided highway. She then overcorrected and the car began to skid, crossing both eastbound lanes and running off the right side of the roadway.

The teen driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle as it struck an embankment.

Police now say traffic is also shut down in the westbound lanes at the accident location.

Jefferson City police responded around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday to a wreck on U.S. 50.

Authorities have shut down the eastbound lanes of the four-lane highway just west of Dix Road.
