JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A state trial judge in St. Louis has been appointed to serve on the Missouri Court of Appeals' Eastern District.

Gov. Jay Nixon announced the appointment Tuesday. It does not need Senate confirmation.

The other finalists nominated by a special commission were St. Louis County Circuit Judge Michael David and attorney Erwin Switzer, a member of the firm Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale.

Van Amburg is a 1970 graduate of Washington University and a 1975 graduate of the Saint Louis University School of Law. She was appointed as a judge in Missouri's 22nd Judicial Circuit in 2003 after 28 years in private legal practice.
