Missouri S&T faculty calls for same-sex benefits

ROLLA, Mo. (AP) - Professors at the Missouri University of Science and Technology have approved a resolution calling for benefits for same-sex partners of university employees.

Professor Susan Murray says she hopes Thursday's vote at the Rolla campus will send a message to the Missouri Board of Curators that the benefits should be available on all University of Missouri campuses.

The faculty council at Missouri's Columbia campus and faculty groups at Missouri-St. Louis and Missouri-Kansas City approved similar resolutions two years ago. Student groups on all four campuses also have supported offering the benefits.

The Columbia Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/IgQ13I ) University of Missouri President Tim Wolfe has said he plans to make a recommendation on the issue to the curators by the end of the year.
