Your Opinion: Cartoonist's work defended

Dear Editor,

I am responding to the editorial comment made by Richard Telthorst about Jim Dyke and his cartoon on Good Friday.

I saw that cartoon and was not offended at all. I consider myself a good Christian and hope the Good Lord does too.

I can say that although I do not know Jim Dyke that well I have met and talked to him more than a few times. I have seen him at work doing his craft and as I passed by I would say hello and he always took the time to say hello back even though he was busy doing his job. I can not imagine how he can come up with a cartoon everyday that has something to do with what is going on in today's world.

He is also a great asset to the many events in Jefferson City where he does the caricature drawings. This from a man that really does not have to do anything but paint for a living.

We all know of his great paintings of the Capitol, the Governor's Mansion, and of his trains. I for one am glad that he has stayed in Jefferson City and would add that if we ever put up busts of famous Jefferson Citizens in City Hall he should be on the list.

As far as the community newspaper having respect for the community I think the community should have respect that in today's world of communication we are fortunate to have a newspaper that prints the facts and truths about your community so we are aware of what is happening.
