5K Run for Dignity to benefit end-of-life care

Peggy Talken recalls the long, stressful hours she and her family spent during her mother's final hours of fighting cancer.

"There were times I would just think I had to make it through the next hour; I needed something to focus on," Talken said.

Her mother, Mary "Tess" Cleary, died in 2009. And before Talken left the oncology unit, she and her sister had decided they had to do something to give back to the hospital and caregivers who had cared for their mother, as well as them, in her final days.

In 2010, Talken and her sister, Nancy Hallinan, held the first Run for Dignity. Last year, they held a chicken dinner and silent auction. This year, the race is back.
