Monday was a day the people of Calvary Lutheran High School have been waiting for.
The opening of the new Calvary Lutheran Lions Field - at the very least - is a symbolic step of a young high school making progress.
The Lions nearly made the game just as memorable.
Calvary-Tolton rallied for four runs in the seventh inning but left the bases loaded during a 9-7 loss to St. Elizabeth.
"It was a little ugly there in the last inning a little bit," St. Elizabeth coach Leroy Heckemeyer said. "We couldn't throw strikes there, and had a couple misplays. I know that's baseball a little bit."
Connor Beck pitched the first six innings, allowing three runs on four hits. But at 122 pitches, Heckemeyer decided to pull Beck.
