Jefferson City Hall is far from a fortress for anyone walking in, with open spaces and few to no security checks.

But that may change as city officials look at new methods to increase security in the building and at municipal court, which is held every Wednesday in the council chambers.

Recently, 3rd Ward Councilman Bryan Pope requested a report concerning security measures at City Hall and a comment was made about looking into acquiring metal detectors for the building.

City Administrator Nathan Nickolaus said the city is looking at specific ways to increase security in the building, which he said has already improved significantly in the past five years. He said the city has a number of measures in place that he did not want to specify for publication.
