SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A man involved in police pursuits in 2009 and 2011 has been sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison.
The Springfield News-Leader (http://sgfnow.co/H5ZbPH) reported that 48-year-old Timothy Sparks was sentenced for illegally possessing firearms and for counterfeiting.
In the first chase Sparks rammed another vehicle and displayed a stolen shotgun. Federal prosecutors said in a news release that the couple inside the car called 911 and followed Sparks to a parking lot, where he drove toward them and discharged the shotgun.
Charges in the first case were still pending when Sparks was involved in the 2011 pursuit. The release said Sparks had $550 in counterfeit bills in his possession when he was arrested after crashing in a field. Another $3,230 in counterfeit cash was found in his vehicle.
