Former Sen. Kit Bond of Missouri could soon have his name emblazoned on a new federal courthouse in Jefferson City.
The dedication of the new courthouse is scheduled for next week.
The U.S. House voted 407-2 Wednesday to pass legislation designating the recently built facility as the Christopher S. Bond United States Courthouse.
The measure was sponsored by Missouri Sens. Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill and passed the Senate in July. It now needs only the signature of President Barack Obama to become law.
Bond retired from the Senate in January after serving there for 24 years. He was succeeded by Blunt.
Bond also served as governor and state auditor.
