KC's 2nd triple killing called homicide-suicide

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City police on Tuesday investigated what they said was an apparent double homicide-suicide, and authorities still hadn't made any arrests in a separate triple killing from just two days earlier.

Police were called around 5:20 a.m. Tuesday to a house in southeastern Kansas City where they found two men and a woman shot to death. Several other people, including young children, were in the house at the time.

After interviewing witnesses, police said a 21-year-old man shot and killed the 18-year-old mother of his child, then killed his 25-year-old brother before turning the gun on himself.

Names of those killed were expected to be released Wednesday.

Police Capt. Steve Young said earlier Tuesday there was no indication the killings were tied to Sunday's fatal shootings of three men at a midtown apartment about four miles away.

Police identified the victims of Sunday's shootings as 23-year-old Philip Hall, 20-year-old Raymond Hill and 21-year-old Stacy Roberson, all of Kansas City. All three appeared to have been shot execution-style, police said, and there were no signs of forced entry.

"There was a lot of evidence inside the apartment as far as blood. We believe it was a very violent encounter, whatever happened inside this apartment," police spokesman Darrin Snapp told WDAF-TV.

Tuesday's killings raised the number of homicides so far this year in Kansas City to 83, compared with 80 at the same time last year. The city finished 2010 with 106 homicides.

Young said there's not much the police department can do to prevent acquaintances from killing each other.

"It's difficult to police when this is how people who know each other choose to solve their problems," he said.
