A confrontation looms today between Callaway County Clerk Denise Hubbard and members of the Callaway County Commission. They disagree on a personnel policy of allowing mothers to bring their newborn children to work.
Since mid-July, Hubbard has been bringing her child Rachel, born July 9, to work each day. Members of the Callaway County Commission decided to ask Hubbard last week to stop bringing the child to work, citing professionalism and liability issues.
Presiding Commissioner Gary Jungermann said Tuesday that Hubbard's response was to adopt her own policy that applies only to her office. Asked what she will do if the County Commission adopts a different policy relating to bringing a child to work, Hubbard said as an elected county official she believes she has a right to adopt her own policy that may differ from other county offices.
