Books to be donated in memory of young Mo. boy

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (AP) - A 3-year-old boy who fatally shot himself with his father's gun will be remembered with a special gift to a St. Louis elementary school.

Daniel Metz shot himself in July with a pistol that belonged to his father, a Maryland Heights police officer.

Because Daniel liked books, family friends decided to donate books to Rose Acres Elementary School, which Daniel would have attended next fall. About 1,215 books were donated from throughout the world. The books will be donated Monday.

Inside each book will be a sticker with a drawing of a smiling, yellow-haired boy - who looks a lot like Daniel - reading a book.

His mother, Amanda Metz, told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/nYxcwX) that the book donation brought something good out of the tragic accident.
