WENTZVILLE, Mo. (AP) - The city council in Wentzville has approved property tax abatement for General Motors aimed at enticing the automaker to follow through with a proposed expansion of its plant in the eastern Missouri town.

Aldermen on Wednesday passed a resolution that would exempt property taxes for 10 years for an estimated $290 million in upgrades to the plant where GM makes Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans.

GM has said it could add up to 2,000 jobs in Wentzville over the next few years, and the automaker may build a huge addition to the existing plant.

GM currently has about 1,300 workers at the plant.
