Proponents say projects provide jobs, generate local tax revenue

Driving down Jefferson City's High Street, one may notice many of the building facades have a fresh face on the century-old architecture. In the past few years, one by one, properties in the downtown area have been relieved of 1960s cover-ups.

Walking down Capitol Avenue, behind the mature trees lining the sidewalks, are once-grand homes of prominent businessmen at the turn of the century. Many have been converted into elegant office space.

And taking in events like the Oktoberfest or Beers, Brats and Blues on Dunklin Street, visitors will notice the revival of the German-settled neighborhood's business district.

In the past decade or so, many historic preservation projects have been undertaken in this community. And a significant portion of those private efforts have benefited from ....
