Simonsen student's bike hits SUV outside school

September 3rd, 2011 in News

A Simonsen 9th Grade Center student received minor injuries Friday morning when he couldn't stop his northbound bicycle coming down the Jackson Street hill.

Myron Graber, the Jefferson City School District's Secondary Education director, said the boy and bike rolled through the stop sign at the corner of Jackson and East Miller streets, and collided with the side of a sports utility vehicle that was in the intersection.

"He had some bumps and bruises," Graber said. "The front wheel on his bike was bent."

Graber said the SUV was gone when he arrived outside the 9th Grade Center, and he didn't know the name of the vehicle's driver, nor what kind of damage the vehicle suffered.

The student was not identified, either.

The accident happened about 7:55 a.m., 20 minutes before classes began for the day.
