Camp Papilio was held for the third year in mid-July for a handful of female newcomers to Lighthouse Preparatory Academy.
Senior Katelyn Rapp had the burst of inspiration three years ago for the camp named for the Latin word for butterfly. And although she prefers to be the innovative thinker and let someone else carry out the plan, she was encouraged to take on the task herself.
"I have great ideas; I'm a horrible initiator," Rapp said.
When she began her school career at Lighthouse, Rapp remembered being unsure and reserved.
"I didn't realize other students were having the same doubts and fears," Rapp said.
Now the gregarious and hospitable senior helps alleviate those beginner's jitters for others. The week-long Camp Papilio, hosted by Rapp, is designed for any girl in 6th-12th grades beginning her first year at the academy.
Sixth-grader Hannah Hyde was one of those first-timers.
