I have never written a "Letter to the Editor" before now. However, I have finally had my fill of the incessant harangues of Messrs. Haslag and Boldt.
These two gentlemen obviously have too much time on their hands. By the number of times their diatribes appear in the News Tribune, one would think them to be staff writers. I am taken by how deftly they wordsmith their opinions. Every time I suffer through one of their missives I picture Boldt or Haslag, thesaurus and dictionary in hand, MSNBC on their television, as they compose. Both finding new ways to craft their selfindulgent criticism of conservative values.
The values of these two fellows seem to be at odds with most of the folks I have met and become friends with in the area. The people I have had the pleasure of meeting since moving here a few years ago don't look to government to take care of them. These folks are self-reliant, self-responsible, church-going people who made our country great in the first place. If they don't like what is happening in government, they vote for a change in the next election, as I know they will in 2012.
Last Saturday (Oct. 15) one of these gentlemen wrote that our current president followed his "... predecessor with murder, torture, spying, war, repeal of habeas corpus and selling out to large corporate interests"
Obviously critical of President Bush or was he thinking of Abraham Lincoln? The folks I have talked to don't have serious problems with these things if they avoid another 9/11.
Please Messrs. Haslag and Boldt send your diatribes to the St. Louis Post Dispatch or the New York Times. Most of the folks around here are more interested in what the woolly worms or the apricot seed has to say than your rants.
