Hickman ends Jays' season with 16-14 decision

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Just nine days ago, the Jefferson City Jays were unbeaten and the No. 1 team in Class 6. They appeared to be on a crash course for their 11th state title.

Friday night, Hickman ended that hope before the playoffs even began as the Kewpies advanced to the Class 6 playoffs with a shocking 16-14 victory.

Hickman (5-5) set the tone for the game in the first two minutes.

Jefferson City fumbled on its opening possession. Hickman's Alex Keith picked it up and ran the ball back 42 yards for a touchdown.

That was the story of the night. Jefferson City (8-2) lost four fumbles and never established an offensive rhythm.
