Boyd pulls out of House race, cites weight

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri man who won the TV show "America's Got Talent" in 2008 has decided to end his bid for the state legislature, citing a need to lose weight.

Neal Boyd of Sikeston announced in September that he would seek the Republican nomination for the 160th House District. But the Southeast Missourian (http://bit.ly/tiePNv ) reported Friday that he has decided he needs to first get in better physical shape. He says the decision was not spurred by any health problems.

Boyd, who is 35, did not disclose his weight. He says he may re-enter politics in a year or two.

Boyd made the announcement Thursday at a Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon also attended by Holly Rehder, who was set to be Boyd's opposition in the Aug. 7 primary.
