Samsung and Google unveil Galaxy Nexus smartphone

HONG KONG (AP) - Samsung Electronics has unveiled its Galaxy Nexus smartphone - the first to use the latest version of Google's Android operating system.

The Galaxy Nexus is seen as the Samsung-Google partnership's answer to Apple's recently released iPhone 4S.

At Wednesday's unveiling in Hong Kong, Google executive Andy Rubin touted Android's special features such as the Android Beam and Face Unlock.

Android Beam allows transfer of data between two Galaxy Nexus smartphones by holding them together, while Face Unlock uses facial recognition technology to activate the unit, rather than conventional passwords.

The Galaxy Nexus goes on sale in November.
