Jefferson City Council to review downtown parking

The Jefferson City Council will hear a proposal Monday for an official downtown resident parking program, and there may be some discussion on whether to immediately begin charging a fee.

The proposed program, which has gone through two committees with several changes, would allow residents of downtown apartments to park in any metered spot without payment. But the question of whether to charge a monthly fee now or later has been debated throughout the past month.

Those living in downtown lofts are currently given a permit at no cost that allows them to park in any metered spot without paying. There are currently 12 permits issued for downtown residential parking.
