Construction Update on Columbia Airport Interchange

Construction crews are making progress on a new

interchange at U.S. 63 and Route H near the Columbia Regional Airport.

Starting as early as Friday, Oct. 14, weather permitting, motorists will be

able to use a new detour to access Route H from U.S. 63 in Boone County.

While the new interchange will remain under construction through late

2012, a new connection to Route H from Hardwick Lane has been built and

motorists will be able to exit U.S. 63 at the roadside park and use

Hardwick Lane to access to Route H. This new detour will remain in place

through the remainder of the project.

"The contractor is scheduled to complete paving, signing and other

finishing work at Route H and Hardwick Lane sometime this week," said MoDOT

Resident Engineer Charles Sullivan. "Depending on their progress, the new

detour route could open on Friday, Oct. 14 or early the following week."

Crews will also finish paving work for a temporary bypass at Log

Providence Road, which is scheduled to be resurfaced at the same time.

Chester Bross Construction Company/C.B. Equipment, Inc. of Hannibal,

Mo. is contracted to build the new interchange at Route H. The project also

includes the construction of 3.5 miles of new southbound lanes from north

of Route 163 to Route H. An outer road system will be created using the

current southbound lanes.
