First lady: Make reading a habit

"I love Llama Llama," said a little girl as first lady Georganne Nixon paused to turn the page in "Llama Llama Red Pajama."

"I love it, too," Nixon sweetly said back to the little girl who was sitting near her. But she spoke loudly enough for the whole room to quietly chuckle.

Nixon read the book to children at the Special Learning Center as part of Read for the Record, an event to focus on the importance of early childhood education.

As a child, Nixon said, reading is one of her earliest memories.

"I think reading is where I developed my love for stories and words, and really learned to love to read," she said. "Reading has always been important in my life."

Not only was she read to as a child, but she recalls reading to her sons, Willson and Jeremiah.
