Man pleads guilty to killing elderly Sedalia woman

SEDALIA, Mo. (AP) - A suburban Kansas City man has pleaded guilty to last year's killing of a 76-year-old woman at her home in Sedalia.

The Sedalia Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/pogcNj) that 46-year-old Daniel Maschger, of Lee's Summit, pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder, armed criminal action and first-degree burglary. Pettis County Circuit Judge Robert Koffman sentenced Maschger to life in prison for murder plus 20 years on the other charges.

Maschger was accused of stabbing Rebekah Marcus after breaking into her home in September 2010. She was found by a health care worker.

Authorities said Maschger had known Markus for several years and went to her house intending to steal from her. Prosecutors said Markus was assaulted when she interrupted the burglary.
