Event hopes to raise $5,000

Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicked off with a day of fun and fundraising courtesy of the Elks Lodge 513 Ladies Auxiliary.

Last year, the group decided to host a fundraiser to benefit local women in their fight for breast cancer. Bowling for Boobies raised nearly $3,500 for the group that helps educate and care for local women dealing with breast cancer.

"Everyone knows someone, everyone has been affected by breast cancer," Jean Carpenter, cochair of the event said. "I just found out a dear friend was diagnosed. It effects us all."
