Panel hears from department heads on budget

Cole County commissioners heard from department heads Tuesday about any changes they would like to see in their budgets for next year.

The proposed 2012 budget, presented last month by Auditor Jim LePage, totals just over $56 million, which is down from the $58.3 million LePage proposed for 2011 and the $61 million budget the commission eventually approved.

The sheriff's department had the longest hearing, and commissioners were told the department is looking at significant overtime costs because of training, along with moving of equipment, personnel and prisoners from the old to the new jail.
