Gov. Nixon praises Missouri farmers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon is praising Missouri farmers for helping to feed, fuel and clothe Americans and people throughout the world.

Nixon celebrated "Thank a Farmer Day" Tuesday with a visit to a family farm just across the Missouri River from the state Capitol.

The governor says agriculture has created jobs, supported local businesses and helped communities to grow. He says farming has been a hallmark of Missouri's economy since statehood.

Nixon stopped at Fischer Farms and Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze in southern Callaway County. The farm produces corn and soybeans and offers a 10-acre corn maze and hayrides.
