The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) wants Missourians to know that some of the "puppy mill" animals born here are being sold in other states - without the buyers knowing where their animals came from.
An HSUS news release last week noted their own undercover investigation, and their assistance with a WNBC-TV report in New York City, both showed a number of "New York state pet stores ... supply unsuspecting consumers with puppies from inhumane, large-scale commercial breeders known as puppy mills."
Barbara Schmitz, the HSUS' Missouri state director, said puppy mills "are problems on both the commercial (retailers') end as well as the breeders' end."
