Your Opinion: We must learn to compromise

Dear Editor:

Enough is enough. I try to limit my letters to no more than two per year. But this is so important at this critical time when our country is going through some very rough waters, that I had to voice my concern about so many of many of the recent letters to the editor and the replies to those letters.

It seems like writers of those letters are from two different worlds and are so full of bitterness, with absolutely no room for any opinions other than their own and any one that disagrees in 100 percent dead wrong.

I am a big believer in free speech and all the freedoms this country gives us. I served my time in the service of our country as millions of men and women have and so many have died and been crippled for life in order to keep our freedom alive.

But the divide in our country today is the worst I have ever seen in my 70 plus years. There is no absolute right or wrong in life. Life is a series of compromises for all of us. Until we understand that and begin to work together to solve the major problems our country is experiencing we will not solve these problems, which we must do for our children and their children.

With open minds and civility to each other we can and will preserve the precious freedoms and opportunities that the founders of our great country left to us.
