Proposed parking program withdrawn

November 8th, 2011 in News

An ordinance for a proposed downtown residential parking program has been withdrawn from the City Council agenda, after a number of area residents expressed concerns throughout the past month.

The proposed program would allow residents of downtown apartments to park in any metered spot without payment, though a $20 monthly fee would be required after five years of the pilot program.

The city held a public forum on the proposed program last week, after which staff said it was clear the program needed more work.

"We have had quite a bit of conversation on it," said Third Ward Councilman and bill sponsor Bob Scrivner. "There's enough, I'm going to say, controversy still involved."
