Meeting to focus on Renns Lake plans

An open house meeting to get community input and information on what should be done with Renns Lake is taking place Thursday.

This is the initial step of a preliminary engineering evaluation to be completed by Gredell Engineering Resources Inc., with support of Central Missouri Professional Services Inc.

Gredell's study will determine costs and funding options to restore Renns Lake, remove it and make it into a stream, or come up with a plan to combine the first two options.

Design development and cost estimates would be done in December, and a final report to the commission is scheduled in early January.

At the end of October 2009, heavy rains began to stress the private lake's dam.

Emergency crews and volunteers spent several days at the end of October and beginning of November 2009 to keep the dam from collapsing. Officials feared a breach of the dam could have caused a wall of water to flood nearby U.S. 54.
