Officials say Boone County has 3 E. coli cases

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Officials say three people in Boone County have confirmed cases of E. coli infection, but the cases are not connected to an outbreak in the St. Louis area.

Geni Alexander, spokeswoman for the Columbia/Boone County health department, told The Columbia Daily Tribune (http://bit.ly/sStTRN ) that the cause of the E. coli infections there hasn't been determined.

Health officials said Thursday that the St. Louis area has 24 cases of E. coli, and that they're trying to find the source of the outbreak. The State Department of Health and Senior Services said it had confirmed two more cases Thursday but also ruled out four cases previously thought to have been connected to the St. Louis outbreak.

No deaths or life-threatening illnesses have been reported since the first cases were reported last week.
