JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - President Barack Obama and Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon will offer messages of remembrance and hope at a Joplin community memorial service on Sunday.
The governor's office says the service will take place at 2 p.m. at the Taylor Performing Arts Center on the campus of Missouri Southern State University. Overflow seating will also be available. Clergy members from the Joplin area will lead the service, with a choir providing music.
The White House said Friday that Obama will be in Joplin on Sunday afternoon. He'll view the tornado's devastation and meet with state and local officials as well as volunteers and first responders.
Nixon has declared Sunday a day of prayer and remembrance in Missouri, with state and U.S. flags to fly at half-staff at government buildings.
