ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) - St. Joseph will join 30 other Missouri cities using cameras to catch drivers who run red lights.
The City Council agreed Monday to hire American Traffic Solutions to operate red light cameras in the northwest Missouri city. The Missouri transportation department also is part of the contract because some of the busiest intersections in St. Joseph are on state highways.
The cameras will be installed at two intersections, which haven't been determined.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports that American Traffic Solutions will install cameras and train police and other city employees to operate them, at no cost to the city.
The fine for a red-light violation is $100. The company will receive $75 from each of the first two citations issued every day, plus $15 for each additional citation.
