FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) - The Federal Emergency Management Agency is opening a second disaster recovery center in eastern Missouri, this one closer to the Bootheel.

The agency says the center will be located in the fire station in the New Madrid County town of Morehouse. The center will be open from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday, then 9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays until further notice.

Eastern Missouri has been hit by repeated rounds of violent spring weather, from tornadoes and floods in the northeast beginning April 19 through the St. Louis tornadoes April 25 and heavy flooding in the southeast.

The centers are staffed by personnel from FEMA and the Small Business Administration to help with applications for loans, housing assistance and other kinds of aid.

A FEMA center opened Saturday in Ferguson, near St. Louis.
