Fox theater cancels shows after fire

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis theater has been forced to cancel two performances of a popular musical after a fire in its mechanical room filled the venue with smoke.

A restoration company was working Sunday morning to clean up the Fox Theatre after firefighters responded to a fire there around 5 a.m.

The auditorium was filled floor to ceiling with smoke and there was damage to the mechanical room above the theater's lobby.

Fire Capt. Dan Sutter says the fire rose to three alarms, but firefighters quickly located the blaze and put it out.

Two showings of the "Jersey Boys" scheduled for Sunday were canceled. Regular performances are scheduled to resume Tuesday.
