SEDALIA, Mo. (AP) - A Sedalia man is charged with second-degree murder after turning himself in for the shooting death of an acquaintance.
Sedalia police say 39-year-old William Saunders was found dead Monday night from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The suspect's son found the body at his grandmother's house and called 911, thinking it was his dad.
Court documents say 48-year-old Walter Staten was charged Tuesday after he went to the Pettis County Jail and told the desk officer he was there to turn himself in for murder.
Staten lives with his mother. The Sedalia Democrat reports the woman told police her son was watching a ballgame with Saunders when she heard an argument, then a gunshot.
Staten was being held on a $1 million bond.
