Kansas City airport security pats down baby

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Patting a baby takes on a new meaning when airport security officials do it.

Security agents at Kansas City International Airport patted down a baby on Saturday after a stroller set off alarms. A picture taken by another passenger went viral on Tuesday, again sparking debate on whether airport security procedures have gotten out of hand.

The Transportation Security Administration said in a statement that officers followed correct procedures by screening the baby's family after the alarm sounded. The TSA says the family was cooperative. The family's identity is not known.

The man who took the picture told The Kansas City Star that he thought the search was extreme. The Rev. Jacob Jester says he thought the child was about was about 8 months old.
