Four young men killed in Miller County crash

Four young men from Rolla were killed in a two-vehicle crash at 10:43 a.m. Sunday in Miller County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol identifies the fatal victims as: Sri H. Chittury, 22; Dheeraj Gudlawar, 23; Srikanth Ravi, 21; and Srupun R. Velumula, 24. They were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck by the Miller County coroner.

The four men were occupants in a car driven by Murali Bottu, 22, also of Rolla. The driver was seriously injured and taken by helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia following the wreck.

The patrol reports that Bottu's car was westbound on Missouri 42 at Hawkins Cemetery Road when it crossed the center line, overcorrected and became sideways in the roadway. Then a pickup truck driven eastbound by Darren J. Denter, 38, of Glencove, Mo., struck the car in the passenger side. Both vehicles came to rest off the roadway.

A passenger in the pickup, Robert E. Davis, 32, of Cedar Hill, Mo., received moderate injuries and was taken to Lake Regional Health Center in Osage Beach. Denter refused medical attention at the scene, the patrol reported.
