MoDOT: 229 jobs to be cut at Central Office

May 6th, 2011 in News

Mid-Missouri is still working to figure out what it will mean for the area after the Missouri Department of Transportation announced Wednesday it would cut 1,200 jobs statewide, close 135 facilities and sell off $44 million in equipment in the next five years.

During Wednesday's announcement, MoDOT Director Kevin Keith said there would be 307 positions cut between District 5 and the central office, both of which are based out of Jefferson City. The cuts would come through attrition and layoffs, he said.

According to MoDOT officials, 340 positions statewide have already been eliminated, of the anticipated 1,200 that will come by Dec. 31, 2012.

Of the 509 people originally employed in District 5 when the trimming began in March 2010, 30 jobs have since been eliminated. Likewise, of the 1,079 people employed at MoDOT's Central Office, 76 have been eliminated.
