Mo. House OKs fund to help recruit foster parents

The Missouri House has approved legislation that would let taxpayers donate part of their state refunds to support for foster care and adoptions.

The bill creates the Foster Care and Adoptive Parents Recruitment and Retention Fund. Donations from tax refunds would be used for licensed community-based foster care and adoption recruitment programs.

In particular, the funds would be used for programs to recruit foster and adoptive families for teens, siblings and children who have not had a home placement for at least 15 months.

The legislation cleared the House on Thursday and moves now to the Senate.
