Missouri Senate ready to debate "right to work'

Missouri's Senate is set to take up the "Right to Work" issue Monday - a priority of Senate President Pro Tem Rob Mayer, R-Dexter.

Lawmakers will debate a bill introduced by Sen. Luann Ridgeway, R-Smithville, that would prohibit any requirement that a person join a union, or pay dues to a union, in order to get any job in the state - the "right to work."

"It's not about the unions or trying to prohibit the unions from doing what they do," Mayer said. "I believe that, if a union is doing what they claim they're doing, workers will want to be a part of their membership and will want to pay dues."
