The Cole County Sheriff's Department could start moving equipment and supplies into the new jail early next month if work continues at its current rate, construction officials told commissioners Thursday.
The department could begin moving into the south side of the building, located at Adams and High streets, around April 8, officials from Septagon, the jail project manager, told the County Commission during the monthly status report. The department could then move into the north side around April 27.
By May 6, the building could be turned over to the county.
"The weather this past month has been more cooperative and allowed some of the exterior work to resume," said Mike Smith with Septagon. "Concrete work on the east side of the building has resumed. The vehicle sallyport drive has been cast, and the metal ceiling in this area is being installed.
