Increases in 2010 crime rates, particularly those tied to properties, are a reflection of the downturn in the economy, say two local law enforcement officials.
"Last year, I pointed out that with the economic issues we are facing, burglaries and other property crimes would potentially increase," said Cole County Sheriff Greg White. "Sadly, they did increase."
Jefferson City Police Chief Roger Schroeder also believes the economy played a part in crime rates in his jurisdiction.
