Your Opinion: Responses on anthem, military

Dear Editor:

First I'd like to thank JoClare Meyer for her letter, just sing our national anthem.

In response to Tony Smith's letter, budget cuts and the military Feb. 24: I'm sure Mr. Smith is an educated person but either he cannot read or he wishes to misrepresent the facts.

He said in his letter that one of my ideas was to increase the military budget because it would provide jobs and income.

What I said in my letter: spend every dollar we can afford on our military. Sell Israel the aircraft they want and need This would create jobs and income in this country.

Mr. Smith wrote about military and security expenditures etc. In part he wrote when there is no believable threat from any country at this time which would call for such weapons. Does he not know that most of the world is our enemy. We need every high tech weapon we can afford.

I do not want to go back to the end of the Clinton era when only 25 percent of our Army equipment and 30 percent of our airplanes were combat ready. At this point in time Canada and Israel are only two countries that I would bet that they would not strike the U.S.

Mr. Smith I hope you read my fourth idea; 25 percent cuts in the next two years.

God bless America, we can both express our ideas.
